NEUVE (c. 1235–1313) , alchemist, astrologer and physician, appears to have been of See also:Spanish origin, and to have studied See also:chemistry, See also:medicine, physics, and also Arabian See also:philosophy. After having lived at the See also:court of See also:Aragon, he went to See also:Paris, where he gained a considerable reputation; but he incurred the enmity of the ecclesiastics and was forced to flee, finally finding an See also:asylum in See also:Sicily. About 1313 he was summoned to See also:Avignon by See also:Pope See also:Clement V., who was See also:ill, but he died on the voyage. Many alchemical writings, including See also:Thesaurus Thesaurorum or Rosarius Philosophorum, Novum Lumen, Flos Florum, and See also:Speculum Alchimiae, are ascribed to him, but they are of very doubtful authenticity. Collected See also:editions of them were published at See also:Lyons in 1504 and 1532 (with. a See also:biography by Symphorianus Campegius), at See also:Basel in 1585, at See also:Frankfort in 1603, and at Lyons in 1686. He is also the reputed author of various medical See also:works, including Breviarium Practicae. See J. B. See also:Haureau in the Histoire litteraire de la See also:France (1881), vol. 28; E. See also:Lalande, See also:Arnaud de See also:Villeneuve, sa See also:vie et ses oeuvres (Paris, 1896).
