At the See also:age of eleven he made his first See also:appearance as a pianist, and when scarcely eighteen he went on a successful tour through See also:Denmark and See also:Sweden. After a stay in See also:Leipzig, where he studied under Mendelssohn and under See also:Schumann, Reinecke went on tour with Konigslow and Wasielewski, Schumann's biographer, in See also:North See also:Germany and Denmark. From 1846 to 1848 Reinecke was See also:court pianist to See also:Christian VIII. of Denmark. After resigning this See also:post he went first to See also:Paris, and next to See also:Cologne, as See also:professor in the Conservatorium. From 1854 to 1859 he was See also:music director at See also:Barmen, in the latter See also:year filling this post at See also:Breslau University;in 186o he became conductor of the famous Leipzig Gewandhaus, a post which (together with that of professor at the Conserva torium) he held with See also:honour and distinction for See also:thirty-five years. He finally retired into private See also:life in 1902 and died in See also: His sonatinas, his " See also:Kindergarten " and much that he has ably edited will keep his name alive.
