RIZZIO , or Rtccro, See also: DAVID (c. 1533–1566), secretary of See also:Mary (q.v.), See also:queen of Scots, was a native of See also:Turin, and came to See also:Scotland in 1561 in the See also:train of the Piedmontese See also:ambassador. The queen wanted a See also:bass See also:singer, and he entered her service as a musician, becoming also her See also:valet de chambre, and in 1564 private See also:foreign secretary. After her See also:marriage to See also:Darnley in 1565 his See also:influence with Mary became See also:paramount, and he gave himself See also:great airs and affected considerable See also:state, practically superseding See also:Maitland of Lethington as secretary of state. His See also:elevation aroused the active hostility of Darnley and the other nobles, and he was suspected of being the queen's See also:lover. On the evening of the gth of See also:March 1566, the earls of See also:Morton and See also:Lindsay, with armed followers, entered Mary's supper chamber at Holyrood, seized Rizzio, hacked him to See also:death with daggers, and threw his See also:body into the courtyard.
