SMITHSON, HENRIETTA See also:CONSTANCE (1800-1854) , Irish actress, was the daughter of a theatrical manager. She made her first See also:stage See also:appearance in 1815 at the See also:Crow See also:Street See also:theatre, See also:Dublin, as Albina See also:Mandeville in See also:Reynolds's Will. Three years later she made her first See also:London appearance at See also:Drury See also:Lane as Letitia See also:Hardy. She had no particular success in See also:England; but in See also:Paris, in 1828 and 18,32, whither she first went with See also:Macready, she aroused immense See also:enthusiasm as Desdemona, See also:Virginia, Juliet and Jane See also:Shore. She had a See also:host of admirers, among them See also:Lector See also:Berlioz (q.v.), whom she married in 1833. They separated in 1840., At the See also:time of her See also:marriage her popularity was already over and she was deeply in See also:debt. A benefit was given her, but she had the See also:mortification of seeing a See also:rival applauded when she herself was coldly received. She retired from the stage, and died on the 3rd of See also:March 1854.
