S.V. of See also:Harrisburg. Pop. (1890) 3811; (1900) J396; (191o) 7199. Waynesboro is served by the Cumber-See also:land Valley and the Western See also:Maryland See also:railways. It lies at the See also:foot of the See also:South See also:Mountain, and under the borough are many caves and caverns. A See also:settlement was made here about 1734; it was called See also:Mount See also:Vernon for twenty years, and then See also:Wallace-See also:town (in See also:honour of an See also:early settler) until the See also:close of the See also:War of See also:Independence, when it was named Waynesborough in honour of See also:General See also:Anthony See also:Wayne; a See also:village was platted in 1797; its See also:charter as a borough, granted in 1818, was repealed in 1824 but was revived in 183o, the spelling being changed to " Waynesboro." See See also:Benjamin M. Nead, Waynesboro (Harrisburg, Pa., 1900).
