Vernon stands on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:Seine opposite the See also:forest of Vernon, a See also:stone See also:bridge uniting it to Vernonnet on the right bank, where there are important stone: quarries. The forest of Bizy lies to the See also:south of the town. Its See also:church is an interesting See also:building dating from the 12th to the 15th centuries, and there is a cylindrical keep built by See also:Henry I. of See also:England. The See also:port on the Seine carries on See also:trade in stone and See also:coal, and the town has workshops for the manufacture of See also:army See also:engineering material and manufactures benzine, See also:aniline dyes, wooden shoes, See also:liqueurs, &c. Vernon in 1196 was ceded by its See also:count to See also:Philip See also:Augustus, See also:Richard I. resigning his See also:suzerainty. The first Estates of See also:Normandy were held at Vernon in 1452.
