WILLIAM (1753—1839) , See also:English portrait-painter, was See also:born at See also:Burford. He was originally meant for a conveyancer, but a strong love for See also:painting induced him to become a See also:- PUPIL (Lat. pupillus, orphan, minor, dim. of pupus, boy, allied to puer, from root pm- or peu-, to beget, cf. "pupa," Lat. for " doll," the name given to the stage intervening between the larval and imaginal stages in certain insects)
pupil at the Royal See also:Academy in 1772. Some of his smaller portraits gained him considerable reputation; he began to be employed by the See also:nobility, and in 1703 became See also:associate of the Academy. In the same See also:year he was made portrait-painter to See also:Queen See also:Charlotte. He painted the portraits of the members of the royal See also:family, and of nearly all the most famous or See also:fashion-able persons of the See also:- TIME (0. Eng. Lima, cf. Icel. timi, Swed. timme, hour, Dan. time; from the root also seen in " tide," properly the time of between the flow and ebb of the sea, cf. O. Eng. getidan, to happen, " even-tide," &c.; it is not directly related to Lat. tempus)
