BENEDICT VIII ., See also:pope from 1012 to 1024, was called originally Theophylactus. He was a member of the See also:family of the See also:count of See also:Tusculum, and was opposed by an See also:anti-pope, See also:Gregory, but defeated him with the aid of See also:King See also:Henry II. of See also:Saxony, whom he crowned See also:emperor in 1014.
