In 16o6 he was See also:vicar-See also:general of the See also:congregation of See also:France, and received from See also:Marie de' See also:Medici the revenues of the See also:sees of Lombez and See also:Saintes. He also administered the See also:diocese of See also:Metz, and was nominated -to that of See also:Marseilles in 1621, but See also:ill-See also:health obliged him here to take a coadjutor. Coeffeteau won considerable distinction in the controversy against the See also:Protestant reformers and also wrote a See also:History of Rome from See also:Augustus to See also:Constantine. Many of his theological writings were collected in one See also:volume (Paris, 1622), and at the See also:time of his See also:death in 1623 he was engaged on a See also:translation of the New Testament which is still in See also:manuscript.
