GEORGE See also:JOB (1816-1893), See also:English organist and composer, was See also:born at See also:Canterbury on the 27th of See also:March 1816. He was a chorister at Canterbury See also:cathedral under Highmore Skeats, the organist. Subsequently he became a See also:pupil of his See also:elder See also:brother, See also:Stephen, and then studied at the Royal See also:Academy of See also:Music under See also:Cipriani See also:Potter and Dr See also:Crotch. In 1834 he gained the See also:Gresham See also:prize See also:medal for his See also:anthem, " See also:Bow down thine See also:ear," and in 1835 was appointed organist of St George's See also:chapel, See also:Windsor, a See also:post he filled for 47 years, retiring in 1882. He took the degree of See also:Mus. B. at See also:Oxford in 1838, and in 184o that of Mus.D. Anthems of his were commissioned for the Three Choirs Festivals of 1853 and 1857, and in 1871 he received the See also:honour of See also:knighthood. He died at Windlesham in See also:Surrey on the 9th of See also:December 1893. His See also:works, which are nearly all for the See also:Church, include two oratorios, a See also:great number of anthems and services, and some pieces for the See also:organ. A memoir of him, by his widow, was published in 1894.
