He was educated at See also:Westminster school and Trinity See also:College, See also:Cambridge, of which he became a See also:fellow. In 1666 he was appointed regius See also:professor of See also:Greek at Cambridge, in 1672 high See also:master of St See also:Paul's school, in 1676 See also:prebendary of St Paul's, in 1677 a fellow of the Royal Society, and in 1697 See also:dean of See also:York. He died at York on the 7th (or 8th) of See also:April 1702. He published a collection, Opuscula mythologica, ethica, et physica, and See also:editions of several Greek and Latin authors, but his fame rests chiefly on his collection of old See also:works bearing on See also:Early English See also:history, entitled Historiae Anglicanae scriptores and Historiae Britannicae, Saxonicae, A nglo-Danicae scriptores X V. He was the author of the inscription on the See also:London See also:Monument in which the See also:Roman Catholics were accused of having originated the See also:great See also:fire. See J. E. B. See also:Mayor, Cambridge in the See also:Time of See also:Queen See also:Anne, 448-450.
