GUERET , a See also:

town of central See also:France, See also:capital of the See also:department of See also:Creuse, situated on a See also:mountain declivity 48 M. N.E. of See also:Limoges on the See also:Orleans railway. Pop. (1906), town, 6042; See also:commune (including troops, &c.), 8o58. Apart from the Hotel desMonneyroux (used as prefecture), a picturesque See also:mansion of the 15th and 16th centuries, with mansard See also:roofs and mullioned windows, Gueret has little architectural See also:interest. It is the seat of a See also:prefect and a See also:court of assizes, and has a tribunal of first instance, a chamber of See also:commerce and lycees and training colleges, for both sexes. The See also:industries include See also:brewing, saw-milling, See also:leather-making and the manufacture of See also:basket-See also:work and wooden shoes, and there is See also:trade in agricultural produce and See also:cattle. Gueret See also:grew up See also:round an See also:abbey founded in the 7th See also:century, and in later times became the capital, of the See also:district of See also:Marche.
