MASSILLON , a See also:

city of See also:Stark See also:county, See also:Ohio, U.S.A., on the Tuscarawas See also:river and, the Ohio See also:canal, 8 m. W. of See also:Canton, and about 50 M. S. by E. of See also:Cleveland. Pop. (1900), 11,944 (1693 See also:foreign-See also:born); (1910), 13,879. It is served by the See also:Pennsylvania (See also:Pittsburg, Ft See also:Wayne & See also:Chicago See also:Division), the See also:Baltimore & Ohio and the See also:Wheeling & See also:Lake See also:Erie See also:railways. Massillon is built among hills in a See also:part of the See also:state noted for its large See also:production of See also:coal and See also:wheat and abounding in See also:white See also:sandstone, See also:iron ore and See also:potter's See also:clay. The city has various manufactures, including iron, engines, furnaces, reapers, threshers and bottles. The See also:total value of the factory products in 1905 was $3,707,013, an increase of 34.8% over that of 1900. The first See also:settlement was made in 1825; in 1826 the See also:town was laid out and named in See also:honour of See also:Jean See also:Baptiste Massillon; it was incorporated a See also:village in 1853, and became a city in 1868.
