In 1882 she married See also:Captain See also:Charles Armstrong, and in 1886 went to study singing in See also:Paris under the famous teacher, Madame Mathilde Marchesi, whose daughter, Madame See also:Blanche Marchesi, also a famous See also:singer, was associated with her. In 1887 she made her debut in See also:opera at See also:Brussels, taking the See also:stage-name of Madame Melba from her connexion with Melbourne. In the next See also:year she sang the See also:part of See also:Lucia, which remained one of her famous roles, at Covent See also:Garden, See also:London; and, though critics complained of her coldness as an actress, her liquid See also:voice and brilliant See also:execution hence-forth made her famous as the greatest successor to See also:Patti, in pure vocalization, on the operatic stage.
