Here a Cistercian See also:abbey was founded in 1237 by See also:Henry III., and its ruins'are extensive, including a See also:great See also:part of the cruciform See also:church, See also:abbot's See also:house, See also:chapter house and domestic buildings. The See also:style is See also:Early See also:English and Decorated, and many beautiful details are preserved. The See also:gatehouse was transformed into a fort in the See also:time of Henry VIII. Netley See also:Hospital for wounded soldiers (1 m. S.E. of the abbey), was built in 1856 after the See also:Crimean See also:War.
