NORTHEIM , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Hanover, on the Ruhme, 12 M. by See also:rail N. of See also:Gottingen and at the junction of See also:railways to See also:Cassel and See also:Nordhausen. Pop. (19o5) 7984. It has an interesting Evangelical See also:church, containing some old See also:wood-See also:carving and stained See also:glass, a See also:Roman See also:Catholic church, several See also:schools and a training See also:college for schoolmasters. There are manufactures of See also:tobacco, See also:sugar and boots; other See also:industries are See also:flour-milling, tanning and See also:brewing. The See also:place is said to date from the 9th See also:century; it obtained civic rights in 1208, and later became a member of the Hanseatic See also:League. It was stormed by the imperial troops in See also:June 1627. The See also:Benedictine See also:abbey of St See also:Blasius was founded in ra63 and dissolved at the See also:Reformation.
