city and the See also:county-seat of See also:Weber county, See also:Utah, U.S.A., at the confluence of the Ogden and Weber See also:rivers, and about 3.5 M. N. of See also:Salt See also:Lake City. Pop. (ago) 14,889; (1900) 16,313, of whom 3302 were See also:foreign-See also:born; (1910. See also:census) 25,580. It is served by the See also:Union Pacific, the See also:Southern Pacific, the See also:Oregon See also:Short See also:Line, and the See also:Denver & Rio Grande See also:railways. It is situated at an See also:elevation of about 4300 ft. in the picturesque region of the Wasatch Range, Ogden See also:Canon and the See also:Great Salt Lake. Ogden is in an agricultural and See also:fruit-growing region, and See also:gold and See also:silver are See also:mined in the vicinity. It has various manufactures, and the value of the factory product increased from $1,242,214 in 1900 to $2,997,057 in 1905, or 141.3 %. Ogden, which is said to have been named in See also:honour of See also:John Ogden, a trapper, was laid out under the direction of Brigham See also:Young in 185o, and was incorporated in the next See also:year; in 1861 it received a new See also:charter, but since 1898 it has been governed under a See also:general See also:law of the See also:state.
