STAVELEY , a See also:

town in the See also:north-western See also:parliamentary See also:division of See also:Derbyshire, See also:England, 12 M. S.E. of See also:Sheffield, on the Midland and the See also:Great Central See also:railways. Pop. (See also:root), 11,420. It lies in the valley of the Rother, in a populous See also:industrial See also:district, devoted chiefly to the working of See also:coal and See also:iron; while there are manufactures of iron goods and brushes in the town. The See also:church of St See also:John the Baptist is See also:Early See also:English, with much Perpendicular and See also:modern alteration; it contains a number of interesting early monuments.
