ALESSANDRI, ALESSANDRO (See also:ALEXANDER AB ALEXANDRO) (1461-1523), See also:Italian jurist, was See also:born at See also:Naples about the See also:year 1461. He studied See also:law at Naples and See also:Rome, and afterwards practised for a See also:time as See also:advocate in both cities. He is said to have been royal proto-See also:notary at Naples in 1490. Dissatisfied, according to his own See also:account, with the corrupt See also:administration of See also:justice, he at length quitted the See also:bar and devoted himself entirely to See also:literary pursuits, especially to the study of See also:philology and antiquities. A See also:sinecure See also:appointment, which he owed to the favour of the See also:pope, enabled him to See also:lead a See also:life of learned leisure at Rome, where he died on the 2nd of See also:October 1523. His See also:work entitled See also:Dies Geniales appeared at Rome in 1522, and was constructed after the See also:model of the Nodes Atticae of Aulus See also:Gellius, and the Saturnalia of See also:Macrobius. It consists of a confused See also:mass of heterogeneous materials See also:relating to philology, antiquities, law, dreams, spectres, &c., and is characterized by considerable credulity.
