CHERSIPHRON , a Cretan architect, the traditional builder (with his son Metagenes) of the See also:

great Ionic See also:temple of See also:Artemis at See also:Ephesus set up by the Greeks in the 6th See also:century. Some remains of this temple were found by J. T. See also:Wood and brought to the See also:British Museum. In connexion with the pillars, which are adorned with archaic reliefs, a fragmentary inscription has been found, recording that they were presented by See also:King See also:Croesus, as indeed See also:Herodotus informs us. This temple was burned on the See also:day on which See also:Alexander the Great was See also:born.
