Elze began his See also:literary career with the Englischer Liederschatz (1851), an See also:anthology of English lyrics, edited for a while a See also:critical periodical See also:Atlantis, and in 18J7 published an edition of See also:Shakespeare's See also:Hamlet with critical notes. He also edited See also:Chapman's Alphonsus (1867) and wrote See also:biographies of See also:Walter See also:Scott, See also:Byron and Shakespeare; Abhandlungen zu Shakespeare (English See also:translation by D. Schmitz, as Essays on Shakespeare, See also:London, 1874), and the excellent See also:treatise, Notes on Elizabethan Dramatists with conjectural emendations of the See also:text (3 vols., Halle, 188o–1886, new ed. 1889).
