town of the See also:province of See also:Batangas, Luzon, See also:Philip-See also:pine Islands, on the Gulf of See also:Balayan and the Pansipit See also:river, opposite See also:Taal (with which it is connected by a See also:bridge), and about 50 M. S. of See also:Manila. Pop. of the See also:municipality (1903) 11,150. It has a See also:fine See also:church and See also:convent. Lemery is situated on a See also:plain in a See also:rich agricultural See also:district, which produces See also:rice, See also:Indian See also:corn, See also:sugar and See also:cotton, and in which horses and See also:cattle are bred. It is also a See also:port for See also:coasting vessels, and has an important See also:trade with various parts of the See also:archipelago. The See also:language is Tagalog. See also:Russia). During the whole See also:period of See also:Polish supremacy it was a most important See also:city, and after the fall of See also:Constantinople it greatly See also:developed its trade with the See also:East. In 1648 and 1655 it was besieged by the See also:Cossacks, and in 1672 by the See also:Turks. See also:Charles See also:YII. of See also:Sweden captured it in 1704. In 1848 it was bombarded.
