On the 6th of See also:January 1493 he rejoined the See also:admiral, who accepted his excuses. But on the return See also:journey he again left his See also:leader, and when Columbus arrived at Palos on the 15th of See also:March 1493 he learned that Alonzo had already landed at Bayona in See also:Galicia. If his See also:object was to forestall Columbus and pose as discoverer of the New See also:World, he was foiled; See also:audience was refused him by See also:Ferdinand and See also:Isabella; and soon after he died, perhaps of chagrin.
