Johnson says that the See also:bishop of See also:London refused to See also:sanction preferment for him because in his Choice he declared that he would have no wife, although he expressed a wish for the occasional See also:company of a modest and sprightly See also:young See also:lady. The poet was married in real See also:life all the same, and—while waiting to clear up the misunderstanding with the bishop—he died in See also:November 1702. The Choice or Wish: A Poem written by a See also:Person of Quality (1700) expresses the epicurean desires of a cultivated See also:man of Pomfret's See also:- TIME (0. Eng. Lima, cf.
