church of St See also:Mary (Evangelical), dating from 1340, is one of the finest churches in the See also:district, and the remains of the town See also:gates, walls and towers are also interesting. See also:Tobacco is grown in the neighbourhood, and cigars are manufactured in the town.
Prenzlau is first mentioned in a document of the See also:close of the 12th See also:century, and received its municipal See also:charter in 1235. As the See also:capital of the old Uckermark it was a frequent See also:object of dispute between See also:Pomerania and Brandenburg until incorporated with the latter about 1480. At Prenzlau See also:Prince See also:Hohenlohe, with his See also:corps of 12,000 men, surrendered to See also:Murat on the See also:retreat after the See also:battle of See also:Jena in See also:October 1806.
