RAMSEY , a seaport and watering-See also:

place on the See also:north-See also:east See also:coast of the Isle of See also:Man, 15 m. N.N.E. of See also:Douglas. Pop. (1901) 4729. It lies on the wide Ramsey See also:Bay, at the mouth of the Sulby See also:river, the See also:estuary of which forms a small See also:harbour. To the north and See also:west the' See also:country is See also:flat, but to the See also:south the See also:lower slopes of the North Ballure See also:hill rise sharply. A See also:creek of the Sulby river on the north See also:side of the See also:town is formed into a picturesque See also:lake. The See also:Queen's See also:pier permits of the landing of passengers at all times, and Ramsey is served by frequent steamers from See also:Liverpool and other ports. The See also:shore of the bay is sandy and gently sloping, and excellent bathing is afforded. A See also:golf links, a See also:geological and antiquarian museum, the Mooragh See also:Park by the side of the lake, and the See also:palace or See also:concert See also:hall, are among the attractions to visitors. Ramsey is connected with Laxey, the See also:summit of Snaefell, and Douglas by electric See also:tramway, and has connexion with the western See also:part of the See also:island by the See also:Manx See also:Northern railway. The See also:Albert See also:tower, on a wooded hill above the town, commemorating a visit of the See also:Prince See also:Consort in 1847, is a favourite view-point.
