The See also:town is laid out in rectangular blocks at the See also:foot of See also:low hills, from the See also:summit of which (as in See also:Queen's Gardens) a splendid See also:panorama is seen, including the See also:snow-clad See also:Mount Ruapehu to the north-See also:east. The river See also:bar obstructs See also:navigation, the See also:depth not exceeding 14 ft., so that large vessels must See also:lie outside. The See also:district is agricultural and See also:pastoral, and See also:wool and See also:grain are exported, as well as See also:meat and See also:dairy produce, for which there are large See also:refrigerating See also:works. The Wanganui Collegiate School (See also:Church of See also:England) is one of the largest boarding See also:schools in See also:Australasia. The district was the See also:scene of conflicts with the natives in 1847, 1864 and 1868, and in the beautiful Moutoa gardens a See also:monument commemorates the See also:battle of that name (May 14th, 1864).
