His See also:father had settled in See also:Russia, and he entered the See also:army, distinguishing himself in the See also:Polish See also:War of 1794—95, and , then serving in the See also:Caucasus. In 18o5, he fought at See also:Austerlitz, in 18o6 against the See also:Turks and in 1807 against See also:Napoleon at See also:Friedland and against the Swedes in See also:Finland. In the war of 1812 he commanded the right wing army of the Russians. In the See also:campaign of 1813 in See also:January he took over the command of the Russian army after Kutfizov's See also:death. But after the defeats of the See also:Spring campaign he laid down this command and led an army See also:corps during the See also:Dresden and See also:Leipzig See also:campaigns, and at See also:Bar-sut-See also:Aube in the 1814 campaign he was severely wounded. In 1823 he was promoted See also:field-See also:marshal, and in 1828 he was appointed to command the Russian army in the war against See also:Turkey. But See also:ill See also:health soon obliged him to retire. In 1834 the See also:king of See also:Prussia gave him the See also:title of prince. He died on the 11th of See also:June 1843.
