WILLIAM (1824-1889) , Irish See also:man of letters and poet, was See also:born at See also:Ballyshannon, See also:Donegal, on the 19th of See also:March 1824 (or 1828, according to some authorities), and was the son of the manager of a See also:local See also:bank. He obtained a See also:post in the See also:custom-See also:house of his native See also:town and filled several similar situations in See also:Ireland and See also:England until 1870, when he had retired from the service, and became sub-editor of See also:Fraser's See also:Magazine, which he edited from 1874 to 1879. He had published a See also:volume of Poems in 1850, followed by See also:Day and See also:Night Songs, a volume containing many charming lyrics, in 1855. Allingham was on terms of See also:close friendship with D. G. See also:Rossetti, who contributed to the See also:illustration of the Songs.
