In 1869 he was appointed to the See also:chair of See also:jurisprudence in University College, See also:London, and in 1872 became reader under the See also:council of legal See also:education and examiner in constitutional See also:law and See also:history to the university of London. Failing See also:health led to his resignation of those offices, and he took a voyage to the See also:South Seas. He resided for a See also:short See also:time at See also:Sydney, and finally settled in See also:Egypt, where he practised as an See also:advocate. After the See also:bombardment of See also:Alexandria, and the reorganization of the See also:Egyptian judicature, he was appointed See also:judge of the See also:court of See also:appeal, but being without any previous experience of administrative See also:work he found the See also:strain too See also:great for his health. He came to See also:England on leave in the autumn of 1885, and on his return to Egypt he died suddenly at Alexandria on the 3rd of See also:January 1886. His See also:principal publications are: Systematic View of the See also:Science of Jurisprudence (1872); Lectures on See also:International Law (1873); Science of Law (1874); Science of Politics (1883) ; History and Principles of the See also:Civil Law of 'See also:Rome as Aid to the Study of Scientific and See also:Comparative Jurisprudence (1883), and numerous See also:pamphlets. His wife, Mrs Sheldon Amos (Sarah Maclardie See also:Bunting), took a prominent See also:part in Liberal See also:Nonconformist politics and in movements connected with the position of See also:women. She died at See also:Cairo on the 21st of January 1908.
