CERUTTI, GIUSEPPE See also:ANTONIO GIACHIMO (1738-1792) , See also:French author and politician, *as See also:born at See also:Turin on the 13th of See also:June 1738. He joined the Society of Jesus and became See also:professor at the,Jesuit See also:college at See also:Lyons. In 1762, in reply to the attacks on his See also:order, he published an A pologie generate de l'institut et de la See also:doctrine See also:des Jesuites, which won him much fame and some exalted patronage; notably that of the ex-See also:king See also:Stanislaus of See also:Poland and of his See also:grandson' the dauphin. During the agitations that preceded the Revolution Cerutti took the popular See also:side, and in 1788 published a pamphlet, Memoire pour le peuple See also:francais, in which in a clear and trenchant See also:style he advocated the claims of the tiers Nat. In May 1789 he presided over the See also:electors of See also:Paris, by whom in See also:January 1791 he was chosen member of the See also:administration of the See also:department and afterwards See also:deputy to the Legislative See also:Assembly. He was a friend of See also:Mirabeau, whose policy he supported and whose funeral oration he pronounced. He himself died on the 3rd of See also:February 1792. Of Cerutti's See also:literary enterprises the most interesting, and probably the most influential, was the popular newspaper founded by him, on the 3oth of See also:September 1790, in collaboration with See also:Rabaut See also:Saint-See also:Etienne and Philippe See also:Antoine Grouvelle. Its See also:character and See also:objects are explained by its See also:title: La Feuille villageoise, adressee chaque semaine a tous See also:les villages de See also:France pour les instruire des lois, des evenements, des decouvertes qui interessent tout bon citoyen, &c. It was continued by Grouvelle after Cerutti's See also:death, the last number appearing on the 2nd of See also:August 1795. Cerutti's See also:works were published in 1793 in 3 volumes.
