See also:Minor, See also:altitude 2300 ft., situated on the edge of a wide See also:plain, almost equidistant from See also:Amasia and See also:Yuzgat. Pop. about 12,500, including a few Christians. Its importance is largely due to its situation on the See also:great See also:trade-route from Kaisarfeh (Caesarea) by Yuzgat and Marzivan to See also:Samsun on the See also:Black See also:Sea. It corresponds to the See also:ancient Euchaita, which See also:lay 15 M. E. Euchaiti was attacked by the See also:Huns A.D. 508, and became a bishopric at an See also:early See also:period and a centre of religious See also:enthusiasm, as containing the See also:tomb of the revered St See also:Theodore, who slew a See also:dragon in the vicinity and became one of the great See also:warrior See also:saints of the See also:Greek See also:Church. Something of the old enthusiasm seems to have passed to the inhabitants of Chbrum, whom most travellers have found bigoted and fanatical Mahommedans (see J. G. C:See also:Anderson, Sludia Pontica, pp. 6 ff.).
