CREETOWN , a seaport of See also:

Kirkcudbrightshire, See also:Scotland. Pop. (1901) 991. It is situated near the See also:head of See also:Wigtown See also:Bay, 18 m. W. of See also:Castle See also:Douglas, but 232 M. by the Portpatrick and See also:Wigtownshire Railway. The See also:granite quarries in the vicinity constitute the leading See also:industry, the See also:stone for the See also:Liverpool docks and other public See also:works having been obtained from them. The See also:village See also:dates from 1785, and it became a See also:burgh of See also:barony in 1792. See also:Sir See also:Walter See also:Scott laid See also:part of the See also:scene of See also:Guy Mannering in this neighbourhood. Dr See also:Thomas See also:Brown, the metaphysician (1778-1820), was a native of the See also:parish (Kirkmabreck) in which Creetown lies.
