ENGHIEN , a See also:

town in the See also:province of See also:Hainaut, See also:Belgium, lying See also:south of See also:Grammont. Pop. (1904) 4541• It is the centre of considerable See also:lace, See also:linen and See also:cotton See also:industries. There is a See also:fine See also:park outside the town belonging to the See also:duke of Arenberg, whose ancestor, See also:Charles de Ligne, bought it from See also:Henry IV. in 1607, but the See also:chateau in which the duke of Arenberg of the 18th See also:century entertained See also:Voltaire no longer exists. Curiously enough the cottage, a See also:stone See also:building, built by the same duke for See also:Jean Jacques See also:Rousseau, still . stands in the park, while the ducal See also:residence was burnt down by the sans-culottes. A fine See also:pavilion or kiosk, named de 1'Etoile, has also survived. The See also:great See also:Conde was given, for a victory gained near this See also:place, the right to use the See also:style of Enghien among his subsidiary titles.
