The value of the factory product in 1905 was $3,162,677, an increase of 30'1% since 1900. The first See also:settlement here was made in 1790, within the See also:district of Erwin (then in See also:Ontario county); after 1796 it was a See also:part of Canisteo township, and the settlement itself was known as Upper Canisteo until 182o, when a new township was formed and named Hornellsville in See also:honour of See also:Judge See also:George Hornell (d. 1813). The See also:village of Hornellsville was incorporated in 1852, and in 1888 was chartered as a city; and by See also:act of the See also:state legislature the name was changed to Hornell in 1906.
