In 1871 he was ordained in the See also:Church of See also:England, and from 1875–1888 was See also:head See also:master of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys, near London. His first published See also:work was The See also:Etymology of See also:Local Names (1857). Between 1862 and 188o he prepared twelve volumes for the See also:Early English See also:Text Society, edited See also:Chaucer (1866) and See also:Spenser (1869) from the See also:original See also:manuscripts, and published Specimens of Early English (1867). His educational See also:works, See also:Historical Outlines of English See also:Accidence (1872), Elementary Lessons in Historical English See also:Grammar (1874) and English Grammar (1874), had a large See also:sale and exercised a real See also:influence. The See also:rest of his See also:life he "devoted to the study of See also:Pali, on which he became a recognized authority. He died at Harold See also:Wood, See also:Essex, on the 12th of May 1894.
