SHOTTS , a See also:

mining and manufacturing See also:parish of See also:Lanarkshire, See also:Scotland. It comprises eight villages, parts of two others, and the See also:town of See also:Cleland (including Omoa) and is served by the See also:North See also:British and Caledonian See also:railways. Pop. (1891) 11,957; (1901) 15,562. The parish contains large ironworks, See also:tile, See also:fire-See also:clay and See also:brick-See also:works, and quarries, and includes the See also:Lanark See also:district See also:asylum and a See also:fever See also:hospital. The curious name of Omoa is supposed to have been given to his See also:property by some soldier or sailor who had settled here after the See also:wars in See also:Honduras, of which Omoa is a seaport. See also:Matthew See also:Baillie (1761-1823), famous for his researches in morbid See also:anatomy, and See also:Janet See also:Hamilton (1795-1873), the poetess, were See also:born in the parish of Shotts.
