He studied first at Lyons, then at See also:Brussels under Lemmens for the See also:organ and See also:Fetis for See also:composition. In 187o he became organist of the See also:church of See also:Saint Sulpice in See also:Paris. He succeeded Cesar See also:Franck as See also:professor of the organ at the Paris See also:Conservatoire, where he was also appointed professor of composition, See also:counterpoint and See also:fugue in 1896. A very prolific composer, he displayed his creative ability in a variety of different styles.
