AICKIN, See also:FRANCIS (d. 18o5) , Irish actor, first appeared in See also:London in 1765 as See also:Dick Amlet in See also:Vanbrugh's The Confederacy at See also:Drury See also:Lane. He acted there, and at Covent See also:Garden, until 1792. His repertory consisted of over eighty characters, and among his best parts were the See also:Ghost in See also:Hamlet and Jaques in As You Like It. His success in impassioned declamatory roles obtained for him the See also:nickname of " See also:Tyrant." His younger See also:brother See also:JAMES AICKIN (d. 1803) was playing leading parts in both See also:comedy and tragedy at the See also:Edinburgh See also:theatre, when he gave offence to his public by his protest against the See also:discharge of a See also:fellow-actor. He therefore went to London, and from 1767 to 'Soo was' a member of the Drury Lane See also:Company and for some years a See also:deputy manager. He quarrelled with See also:John See also:Philip See also:Kemble, with whom, in 1792, he fought a bloodless See also:duel.
