He had considerable practice as a conveyancer, and after the passing of the See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:Relief See also:Act 1791 was called to the See also:bar. In 1832 he took See also:silk, and was made a bencher of Lincoln's Inn. He died on the 2nd of See also:June in the same See also:year. His See also:literary activity was enormous, and the number of his published See also:works comprises about fifty volumes. The most important of them are the Reminiscences (182r–1827); Horae Biblicae (1797), which has passed through several See also:editions; Horae Juridicae Subsecivae (1804); See also:Book of the Roman Catholic See also:Church (1825), which was directed against See also:Southey and excited some controversy; lives of See also:Erasmus, See also:Grotius, See also:Bossuet, See also:Fenelon. He also edited and completed the Lives of the See also:Saints of his See also:uncle, See also:Alban Butler, See also:Fearne's See also:Essay on Contingent Remainders and Hargrave's edition of See also:Coke upon See also:Littleton's See also:Laws of See also:England (1775)• A See also:complete See also:list of Butler's works is contained in See also:Joseph See also:Gillow's See also:Bibliographical See also:Dictionary of See also:English Catholics, vol. i. pp. 357-364.
