When fif teen, she had an offer from the See also:United States, and made her debut at the Bowery See also:theatre, New See also:York. Returning to See also:England, she appeared at See also:Liverpool as Fenella in See also:Masaniello, and also in See also:London (1831). In 1834 she aroused such See also:enthusiasm in See also:America that her admirers carried her on their shoulders and took the horses out of her See also:carriage in See also:order to pull it themselves. It is even said that See also:President See also:Jackson introduced her to his See also:cabinet as an adopted See also:citizen of the See also:Union. Having made a large See also:fortune, she returned to England in 1837. She now gave up dancing, and appeared as an actress, first at See also:Drury See also:Lane and then at the Haymarket. In 1844 she joined See also:Benjamin See also:Webster in the management of the Adelphi, and afterwards took the See also:sole managementof the See also:Lyceum till 1861: She made a third visit to the United States from 1865 to 1868, and retired in 1870. Her favourite See also:part was See also:Miami in See also:Buckstone's See also:Green Bushes. She died in Paris on the 12th of See also:February 1882.
