He was elected an See also:associate of the Royal Scottish See also:Academy in 1849, came to See also:London three years later, was elected an associate of the Royal Academy in 1861, and academician in 1864, and retired in 1893. He had much success as a painter of domestic genre, and had considerable executive capacity. Three of his pictures, " The Silken See also:Gown," " Faults on Both Sides," and "The Highland See also:Mother." are in the See also:National See also:Gallery of British Art. See See also:William D. McKay, The Scottish School of See also:Painting (1906).
