WILLIAM (1794-1863) , See also:English writer on banking, was See also:born in See also:London on the 21st of See also:March 1794. From
1813 to 1825 he was clerk in a London See also:bank. After a two years' See also:residence in See also:Birmingham, he was appointed manager of the See also:Kilkenny See also:branch of the Provincial Bank of See also:Ireland, and in 1829 he was promoted to the See also:Waterford branch. In 1834 he became manager of the London and See also:Westminster Bank; and he did much to develop the See also:system of See also:joint-stock banking. On more than one occasion he rendered valuable services to the joint-stock See also:banks by his See also:evidence before committees of the See also:House of See also:Commons; and, . on the renewal of the bank See also:charter in 1844, he procured the insertion of a clause granting to joint-stock banks the See also:power of suing by their public officer, and also the right of accepting bills at less than six months' date.
