CARGILL, DONALD (1610-1681) , Scottish Covenanter, was See also:born in 1610. He was educated at St See also:Andrews, and afterwards attached himself to the Protesters. After his See also:appointment to one of the churches in See also:Glasgow, he openly resisted the See also:measures of the See also:government. Compelled to remain at a distance from his See also:charge, he ventured back to celebrate the Communion, and was arrested, but was liberated at the instance of some of his private See also:friends. He was afterwards wounded at the See also:battle of See also:Bothwell See also:Bridge, and fled to See also:Holland, where he remained a few months. On his return he joined See also:Richard See also:Cameron in See also:publishing the See also:Sanquhar See also:declaration, and boldly excommunicated the See also:king and his officials. He was soon afterwards apprehended, and brought to See also:Edinburgh, where he was beheaded on the 27th of See also:July ,681.
