Demotica is built at the See also:foot of a conical See also:hill on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:river Kizildeli, near its junction with the Maritza. It was formerly the seat of a See also:Greek See also:arch-See also:bishop, and besides the See also:ancient citadel and See also:palace on the See also:summit of the hill contains several Greek churches, mosques and public See also:baths. In the See also:middle ages, when it was named Didymotichos, it was one of the See also:principal marts of See also:Thrace; in See also:modern times it has regained something of its commercial importance, and exports pottery, See also:linen, See also:silk and See also:grain.
