It lies on the south See also:bank of the See also:Thames and extends up the hills above the See also:shore, many villas having been erected on the higher ground. The See also:park of a former seat, See also:Belvedere, was thus built over (c. 1860), and the See also:mansion became a See also:home for disabled See also:seamen. The See also:church of St See also:John the Baptist, though largely altered by See also:modern restoration, retains See also:Early See also:English to Perpendicular portions, and some early monuments and See also:brasses.
