THOMAS GERMAN REED (See also:born in See also:Bristol in 1817, died 1888) married in 1844 See also:Miss PRISCILLA See also:HORTON (1818-1895), and in 1855 they started their entertainment at the "See also:Gallery of See also:Illustration," in See also:Waterloo See also:Place, London. From 186o to 1877 they were assisted by See also:JOHN ORLANDO See also:PARRY (1810-1879), an accomplished See also:pianoforte player, mimic, parodist and humorous See also:singer; and the latter created a new type of musical and dramatic See also:monologue which became very popular. His tradition was carried on after 187o by Mr CORNEY See also:GRAIN (1844-1895), who, as a See also:clever, refined, and yet highly humorous society entertainer (originally a See also:barrister), was one of the best-known figures of his See also:day. After the retirement of the See also:elder German Reeds, their son, See also:ALFRED GERMAN REED (1846-1895), himself a See also:capital actor, carried on the business in See also:partnership with Corney Grain. The " German Reed Entertainment "—which was always patronized by a large class of See also:people, many of whom objected on principle to going or taking their See also:children to a See also:regular See also:theatre or a See also:music-See also:- HALL

hall--retained its See also:vogue for See also:forty years at Waterloo Place and at the St See also:George's Hall, See also:Regent See also:Street. But the See also:death of Mr Corney Grain almost simultaneously with Mr Alfred German Reed, in 1895, together with the changed public attitude towards the regular theatre, ended its career.
