He died in 1812, one of his last acts having been to write an encouraging See also:letter to the See also:emperor See also:Alexander I. in view of the See also:French invasion. Platen was a brilliant and learned See also:man, and the author of several See also:works which enjoyed a high reputation in their See also:time, including A See also:Short See also:History of the Russian See also:Church, which has been translated into See also:English.
