A See also:branch See also:canal connects with the Worcestershire and See also:Staffordshire See also:system. The town stands on an See also:eminence on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:Stour. Among public buildings are a town-See also:hall (1887) and town offices, and a school of See also:science and See also:art. There is an endowed See also:grammar school founded by See also:Edward VI., and a bluecoat or See also:hospital school. Dr See also:Johnson received See also:part of his See also:education in this town (1726-1727). The See also:principal manufactures are in See also:iron, See also:leather and skins; there are See also:glue See also:works and See also:fire-See also:brick works. See also:Coal and fire-See also:clay are raised. The manufacture of See also:glass was established in 1556 by emigrants from See also:Hungary, the See also:place where they erected their factory being still known as Hungary See also:Hill. The town was originally called Bedcote, a name retained by the See also:

manor. The urban district includes the townships of Upper Swinford and See also:Wollaston.
