Having seen some service in the See also:East Indies, he was taken prisoner by the See also:French in 1794, but his captivity wasonly a See also:short one and in See also:February 1797 he commanded his See also:ship, the " See also:Culloden," at the See also:battle of Cape St See also:Vincent. In the following See also:July he assisted See also:Nelson in the unsuccessful attack on See also:Santa Cruz, and in See also:August 1798, when getting into position for the attack on the French See also:fleet, the " Culloden " ran aground and was consequently unable to take any See also:part in the battle of the See also:Nile. He then served in the Mediterranean and was created a See also:baronet in 1799; from 18o1 to 1804 he was a See also:lord of the See also:admiralty, being made a See also:rear-admiral just before his retirement. In 18o5 Troubridge was given a command in the East and he went out in the " See also:Blenheim." In See also:January 1807 in this ship, an old and damaged one, he See also:left See also:Madras for the Cape of See also:Good See also:Hope, but off the See also:coast of See also:Madagascar the " Blenheim " foundered in a See also:cyclone and the admiral perished. His only son, Sir See also:Edward Thomas Troubridge, bart. (d. 1852), entered the navy in 1797 and was See also:present at the battle of See also:Copenhagen. From 1831 to 1847 he was member of See also:parliament for See also:Sandwich and from 1835 to 1841 he was a lord of the admiralty. His son, Sir Thomas St Vincent Hope Cochrane Troubridge, bart. (1815-1867), entered the See also:army in 1834, and was severely wounded at the battle of See also:Inkerman.
